About Me
Thanks for coming by and learning a little about me, the artist of this page. I began sewing back in 1993, borrowing my neighbors Brother sewing machine. My first clothing project was a patchwork skirt made from rayon prints found in the remnant section of my local fabric shop. Remnants are still something I scope out in any fabric store to use for patchwork projects. I began making mostly clothing, bags, and purses. My first quilt was started in 1999, and I'm still working on it now! In the summer of 1994, I began selling some of my goods at the local concerts in the parking lot. Grateful Dead, Phish, Allman Brothers, Blues Traveller, Bob Dylan and Santana are some of the concerts in which I stumbled around the parking lots, looking for potential customers. Hemp necklaces and apron tops were my top-selling items, as well as hippie dresses. A few years later, I discovered eBay, and I've been a buyer and seller ever since! Finding good prices, and meeting some amazing people from all around the US, and around the globe, like Australia, Germany, England & Canada! Most of the quilts I've made were intended for someone special, but now I will begin selling my quilts online here. I offer many styles, and just about any size you can measure! My prices reflect my time and supplies purchased. You can feel good about helping support a growing artist! Not too updated: My Recipe Blog
After borrowing my neighbors sewing machine for way too long (Thanks, Mrs. Rosewag!), and seeing me hand-stitch projects, my parents bought me my first sewing machine, a Singer, in 1993. A basic model, but still worthy none-the-less, I used that machine for about 6 years. My Singer just wouldn't keep up with me, as much of my clothing and other items is made from tough, thick fabrics like corduroy and denim. Finally in 1999, I purchased a Babylock BL 6002, a home sewing machine with more capabilities, and goes over my thicker fabrics with no problems. It's also got some great stitching functions, like automatic button-hole, a built-in needle threader, and quite a few decorative stitches. I really recommend it! Since most of my fabrics are natural, they tend to unravel on the edges. In December of 1999, I bought myself a Janome Model 134D overlocking machine. Not a serger, this 4-thread machine stitches 2 strait stitches, and overlocks the edge for a nice clean finish. This makes the seams stronger, and the item last longer. I use a rotary cutter, and 2 different cutting mats for cutting strips and strait lines. One of my prized tools is made by Coming Attractions in AZ, called "Strips Ahoy 100". This fantastic item produces the cleanest, most precise strips and squares. Never has my patchwork been so aligned and professional-looking. I'm not a salesperson, nor affiliated with this company, but let me know if you need any more info on it, and I'll be glad to share.
I live in the great hills of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia with my husband. My business name came about when I lived right on the Potomac River in Shepherdstown, WV. Each morning, the Potomac River would grace our eyes, forever flowing, full of life and sounds of nature. Those lulling sounds and sights were what helped me imagine and create these unique items that touch nature. Now we live in Berkeley Springs, and we cross the Potomac River each time we come back home. My husband, a talented musician, helps me pick out colors and prints to use, as sometimes seeing things through a different eye can make all the difference. (Thanks, babe!) I grew up in Montgomery County, MD with my twin sister, two older brothers, and loving parents in a small town. Someone in the family was always creating something, whether it was my dad or brothers building something in the garage, my sister painting, or my mom cooking or glue-gunning. This is where my creativity and patience began, always with encouragement and enthusiasm from my family.
